| ABOUT TORTOLANI |
| It is a tradition of excellence that spans more than four generations. A tradition that blends craftsmanship and artistry, family pride and individual dedication. A tradition of uncompromising standards, attention to details and customer satisfaction. | |||
It began in Italy in 1923. Francisco Tortolani, the son of a jewelry maker, dreamed of bringing his unique creations to America. After attending jewelry design school in Italy, his dream became reality and he founded the Mastercraft Jewelry Company in Providence, Rhode Island. However, his path to success would soon be blocked by an obstacle: World War II. | ||
| During the war, virtually all metal was allocated for defense. Given the shortages, many jewelry companies simply went out of business. However, innovative thinking is a trademark of the Tortolani family, and this was never more apparent than during WWII. Francisco (now known as Frank) came up with an ingenious plan to save his business and help the war effort by contracting with the government to make dog tags. During this time, he also made jewelry out of wood. | |||
| After WWII, Frank moved his operation to Los Angeles where he created Tortolani Jewelry, a well-known line of fine custom jewelry. From there, he would pioneer a different facet of his art, pioneering the advertising specialty industry. His exquisitely designed and crafted pieces were as much copied as they were commissioned by such companies as Max Factor and Avon. |
| Today, the third and fourth generations of the family continue the Tortolani traditions of quality and beauty. Personally trained by Frank, son Donald F. and grandson Donald E., along with granddaughter Robin, operate Tortolani, Inc., where the craftsmanship that has been passed down from one generation to the next meets a new era of advanced technology. Tortolani has established its own reputation for unparalleled quality and innovative design; in fact, they are one of the few members of the advertising specialty industry that specializes in handcrafted product replicas. | |||
